KAR CONVENTION AUDITION WORKSHOP

It’s hard to believe there is such a thing as an “Audition Workshop” and that’s because we always feel that every “audition” is the real thing. In the dance convention world, when an Audition is given, it is usually executed to decide on which dancers will receive scholarships or which dancers will be performing in the showcase later on that day. The numbers are passed out, and the “cattle call” begins.

From my own experience, being at those auditions myself as a child was extremely stressful for two reasons. Reason one is that I had absolutely no idea what I was suppose to do to set me apart or stand out. Being in a room of over 200 kids who have already auditioned for professional gigs, I thought I had no chance. The second reason is that I felt forced into this state of competition in which I was not prepared for. I lacked the tools to execute the audition properly. Period.

BUT NOW… KAR Convention has taken a new spin on the “Audition Workshop” approach!! *bells ring*
Here at KAR, we see an audition as a completely different opportunity. We see it not as a competition for accolades, but as a class or a workshop to help our future stars on their way to the real working world. Our goal is to give the proper tools that should make any young dancer feel comfortable in an audition setting. Whether it’s for back-up dancing gig for Britney Spears or even auditions at their own school or studio, we give them the information needed to set them apart.

The Audition Workshop is taught by one of our credited master class teachers. These teachers have had head-on experience auditioning and casting in their careers. They know what it takes to land the job. The class is broken down into sections focusing on things you would most definitely see at a real-life audition. This includes:

  1. Entrance – Tips on how to enter the room and what your body language says.
  2. Attire
  3. Ballet Combo
  4. Entrance & exits from floor (before and after combination)
  5. Jazz Combo
  6. Type Casting
  7. Slating
  8. Misc (Show Headshot & Resume examples, Q&A)

All of these very valid and relevant topics can be applied to everything, from auditions to interviews etc. Again, being that this is an audition class, there is absolutely no pressure on the kids, and it’s made to be fun and informative! If only they offered this type of workshop when I was growing up as a dancer, I would’ve walked into every audition with so much for confidence. I’m so jealous right now! 😉

The cost is $20 per dancer. And if you ask me, I would gladly pay more even at my age for the information you receive from this experience. I urge any child to partake in this very different, helpful “audition workshop.” No stress, just fun.

Hope to see you there at our Audition workshop! For more info, please visit dancekar.com/convention.
